They both did alchemy. And FMA is a sweet anime (japanese cartoon) and i reccommend it to every one.

But an alchemy, in general, is a mix of science and philsophy and has to do with the transformation of physical and chemical states of objects. AKA the story everyone has heard about alchemist changing lead into gold.

But personally, while it sounds like a sweet profession, im not sure how it would work. The only thing i could see them doing is what ranger spirits do. ie change the nature of damage and such.

And for those who've seen FMA, alchemists have the ability to transform stone, rock, water into different shapes. So like making a giant wall from the dirt around them or make a wave of water from the water from a lake. AKA they can only transform things around. They cant make something from nothing. To use a quote from FMA "Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is Alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth."

So maybe ther could be like a cross between a necro and an ele, but im not sure how it would work still.

I don't see anything that alchemy has anything to do with philosophy. It has more in common with modern day chemistry than anything else.

Actually, it has more to do with modern day magicians than chemistry. Historical Alchemy was all about fooling the upper class and the masses that it was possible to transform various elements into gold, or producing an elixir of long life.

They would often perform these 'transformations' in front of an audience, putting on a show with mixtures that caused flashes of light, etc. In reality, they would simply show a lump of lead, and after the light show, reveal a hidden lump of gold.

The only thing really good that came from Alchemy was the scientific process. There was only a handful of alchemists that were really trying to transmute, and with research, they came up with a process of testing what worked and what didn't.

Anyway, enough of that, an oldschool fantasy-style Alchemist would rock. Something between an explosives/trap/potion maker, and weilder of mild forms of elemental magic. I'm all there!

It is a philosophy in the fact that alchemists believed that the world worked according to the principles of alchemy. Ergo it was a mixture of philosophy and science.

But as i think about, maybe a alchemist profession isn't so far off. I'm just not sure of exactly how it would fit into the present gw class and enviroment system.

Lets ignore the fact that the princibles they believed the world worked on is the basis of chemistry and physics as we know today with a different word structure.

a profession like that could bring into environment changes in the area, like icy ground, and what not too. it does sound cool, but thats only one of the 2 professions we will be getting. what could go with that?

FMA is quite a DBZ-like expansion on the original idea of alchemy, I wouldn't take it as an "inspiration" for GW. Hopefully there would be some kind of item/flask bound mechanics instead of the virtual magic FMA performs.

Alternative to the necro? What alternative? Necromancers are masters of AoE curse, Minions, and Life Stealing. What else is there?

Wouldn't it be cool if an Alchemist was a melee profession, allowing him to transmute his weapon to make it stronger?

Yes i do love FMA =(

You are quite wrong here, DBZ didn't have very complex story & plot line and their fighting more like template show. The one who can squeeze out highest power wins.
While FMA is more to story and its plots and their fight style prone to find people weakness instead of squeezing power juice. Ok back to topic now.

QFT. But I have confidence in A-Net of creating a new classes. Like Paragon is created due to a lot ppl like have a support class that is a Bard. It is not 100% Bard class but it come close.

omg maybe this is really a hint, very interesting..

In Norse mythology, Berserkers (or Berserks) were warriors who fought naked, in an uncontrollable rage or trance of fury, the berserkergang.

The Úlfhéðnar (singular Úlfhéðinn) mentioned in the Vatnsdœla saga, Haraldskvæði and the Völsunga saga were said to wear the pelt of a wolf upon their heads when they entered battle.

A class from the north .. oh I wish it would be the charrlands

Nor do I,

Alchemists are about "flashy light shows" and "trasmuting". But neither of these play a major role in Guild Wars, Transmuting most of all, i mean, you could be an on hand merchant of can transmute to gold, but at a lesser payout than a common merchant, so why wouldnt you just use the merchant for more money?
And if it could obtain more gold than the merchant, merchant's "sell" feature becomes rather redundant when an alchemist with 16 Trasmute skill would just get payed to do it for you.

And flashy light shows? So what? We've got Blinding Light, and thats a very basic skill.

But, if you find a way to add it in, i'd glady like to know.

Also, I hope ANet never introduces Consumable Potions.

In most other fantasy games Alchemists tend to create and use potions and I would therefore expect that would be the aspect that would be used.

The Alchemist could use 'skills' as apposed to 'consumable potions' as the means of delivery - As a general support character you could have attributes for each of the potion types;

Fire
Poison/disease
Healing

No one seems too concerned about the fact that arrows magically appear when a ranger uses a bow, so I don't see any real problem with implementing the idea of potions being magically created on demand - they could be ranged (thrown - for AOE and degen) or touch (imbued) for healing.

On a seperate note I also notice that Dhumm (Emissary of) appeared in this chapter, introducing a new god. Have there been previous references to this in other chapters that I have missed, or could this also be a clue to the theme for an upcoming chapter?

Alchemist with ability to create temporal potions for weapon slots or off-hand slot. Those potions then disappear after zoning etc.

I second that notion. Consumable potions and GW do not mix IMO. It just goes against the currrent battle system completely.

The only thing i can see is if there were more environment effects they could alter those, but thats not enough for an entire profession.

And as for the Beserker Idea...is there really a different between them and warriors?
